This
is a note for all the bands , I've tried my level best not to be a prick.
These reviews are based ONLY on my opinion , no other entity was approached.
So in the process if I've written something I wasn't supposed to , well
I DON'T apologize.
1.Garage
Monsters Inc.- Stray bullet
---------------------------------------------------
After listening to the song , there is one thing that CANNOT be denied.
The band is heavily influenced by Creed , especially the vocalist ,Nikhil
Cherian who does a neat imitation of Scott Stap in some parts of the song
.The changes introduced in between are quite unique , and unpredictable
. The leads played Joshua ,go really well with the song. Doesn't sound
like a forced lead.
The bassist, Aubrey has done a good job and so has the drummer, Arun Britto
.
Overall the song is really nice to listen to. Something you rockers might
not expect from an "Indian rock band". Good work guys. Keep
it up.
2. Them Clones - SINDROME
-------------------------------------------
As mentioned in the booklet that comes along with the cd , Them clones
are definitely looking strong , after being featured in the Levi's GIR
(Vol. 9) for the fourth time they have proved once again , that there's
always room for experimentation .They are not afraid of experimenting
with anything at all.
The vocals for this song have been really unpredictable and strong.
The bassist Romit Gupta has proved that a rock band without a bassist
could be equivalent to a brass band. His role for this song has been really
important. The drummer Surojit Dev has done an impressive job.
And hats off to the guitarists.
Nice journey throughout the song .
3. Liquid Groove - At stake
----------------------------------
The song starts of really well with the panning of the drumming in between
the speakers but the only thing that cannot be ignored is the fuzziness
of the guitar ,which actually could be a setback. I really don't know
if it's a recording problem or a processor glitch , but whatever it is
, its not good.
The vocals being really strong are obviously an imitation of Zack De la
Rocha (RATM).
Liquid Groove have really defined themselves as a funk band.
The band even though being a funk band have incorporated a synthesizer
really well.
Overall a really nice effort by everyone , especially the bassist and
the guitarist.
Keep on rocking guys. Great work.
4. Nakshatra - My Shadow
--------------------------------
The
start of the song has been a really nice effort to incorporate an Indian
base into the song. The band has pulled it off really well. Usually a
rocker might think that the song will keep on going on the same tracks
throughout like fusion rock bands , but the changes in the songs are quite
unpredictable. The sound which Nakshatra have defined is very unique.
This is considering their previous track 'Break Away' also.
The guitar patches sound fuzzy at some parts of the song.
But commendable work Nakshatra.
Keep it up.
5.
MEDUSA - DRIP
--------------------------
Nice
work starting off guys . That's where the song becomes interesting , from
the very start.
The band is really tight throughout the song. The drummer , Rahul Hariharan
being really tight , the vocalist , Rakshit Tiwari being really strong
the guitars ,Rahul Nadkarni and bass ,Siddharth Shah putting in their
best , this song can simply answer the question , why Medusa have become
a popular band in a relatively short period of time.
The song is a typical head banging song for all you rockers out there.
Trust me this is one song where all those moshers would have a really
good time.( ;) if u know what I mean) .
Overall well done guys , ROCK ON.!!
6.
PDV - IN DEPENDENCE
--------------------------------------
I
don't even need to write down their entire name. Even the title has only
PDV written. Cause every freakin rocker in the country knows WHO these
guys are.
One of the best and longest lasting Hardcore Metal Band.
With IN DEPENDENCE , these guys have proved that they know their stuff.
The drums have been solid , and so have the vocals . The only small fault
would be , that the bassist was no where to be heard. Somehow the guitars
, vocals and the drums dominated the bass.
These guys have proved that they are the tightest kick ass band the country
has to offer.
Good job PDV.
7.
Demonic Resurrection - Frozen Potrait
-------------------------------------------------------
The songs starts of really nice , with a really nice feel. As soon as
the song erupts somehow it sounds monotonous for a pretty long time. Then
when the interlude is played , that's where the song actually gets a little
interesting , nice work there guys.
The drummer JP and the bass Husain have done a good job. The keyboards
have been incorporated really well. The vocalist ,The Demonstealer (Is
that really your name ?) , has done good with the vocals , though most
of it cannot be comprehended .But isn't that how all "DEMONIC METAL"
bands sound like. ??
Overall the song has been no that bad to listen to. A lot of experimentation
done.
Neat work .
8.Tribe
- Requiem you
---------------------------
The
song starts off really well . The grooves have been incorporated very
effectively. Though no matter how hard you try to deny it , the entire
song does sound like Evanesence.
The vocalist ,UJ has done a nice job. The guitars were somehow way in
the background . I couldn't actually listen to bass either. The main Groove's
have dominated practically everybody else , except for the vocalist. Then
again probably that was the way the song was supposed to be.
By the end of the song , I'm sure everyone will have a great time trying
to figure out what genre does tribe belong to.
Overall Great effort and a really neat track to listen to.
9.Tripwire
- Norm the guy is cool
--------------------------------------------
WHAT
? ,WHY ? , the first two question that came to my mind . I really didn't
get it. Why was this song In THIS CD?
No offense guys , but the song's just too bland. The same two bars played
again . That's all.
I mean , there's nothing to write. What possible review should I write.
Its just too simple.
Oh ! and the guitar patch doesn't suite the genre.
I'm sure you guys were trying to pull off something like 'Busted' or 'Sum
41'.
The song's not bad , but its not that good either. I'm sure guys can do
better.
Anyways now that you guys are featured in this CD , all I'm left with
to say is Rock on ! (I think).
10.
Funeral Fire - Funny world
---------------------------------------------
The song starts of really well , with a pretty nice riff.
The guitars have been good. Have been played with just the right feel.
The drums have been nothing exceptional , just good. The vocals have been
really strong.
The bass grooves in some parts of the song are nice. Nice work there Cyrus.
Overall the song is a pretty good to listen to.
11.ACRID
SEMBLANCE
---------------------------------
The song has a really powerful start . Picks up really well. The vocalist
has does a great job growling on the microphone. None of his words could
be understood.
The music given for the song is really good. But its just because of the
vocals that the effect of song was lost. When u call yourself a metal
band , you don't always need to GROWL man!. Give the song what it needs.
The music definitely wasn't asking for a growl.
Decent job with the keyboards and the guitars. Good job there.
The drummer Manna has done a good job , maintaining time . Is usually
quite easy to loose time in such songs.
Great effort guys. Rock on.
12.
No Idea - Journey on
---------------------------------
Starting off as a heavy metal band , and then shifting to jazz-progressive
, must say quite a transition.
The song is a really nice number to listen to. Has a very nice feel to
it. The guitars have done a good job maintaining the flow of the song.
The vocalist , must say , really strong. Nice job there sweet leaf.
The song somewhere suddenly changes itself , goes into a very SAMBA mood.
Actually cant say much about that , but I do have one question , Why ?
The mood has been maintained through the song .
The keyboardist Chris Santiago has done a decent job.
Great Job guys .
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note
: That was my review for all the songs. Trust me guys I've put in a considerable
amount of time listening to every song . As I've said earlier , I've tried
not be a pain in the A#$ . but if I have , I don't apologize. Everything
I've said is a fact. Any other rocker in the country will agree. For a
few bands with whom I've been a prick , you guys can surely do well.
Well , its been fun writing this review on LEVI's Great Indian Rock Vol
9.
As Neil young has said , "KEEP ON ROCKING IN THE FREE WORLD "
