GINO BANKS
Gino has been fooling around with the drums since he was 8 years old and took it up seriously at the age of 15, after school. He is the son of Louis Banks, India’s legendary jazz pianist and composer. He toured Australia and China with his fathers’ indo-jazz fusion band SANGAM playing percussion(roland octopad and shakers) when he was just 9 years old. His interest in drums began at an early age watching drummers Ranjit Barot and Sivamani perform with his father on stage. He listens to all kinds of music ranging from jazz to rock to pop to fusion to classical to heavy metal and everything in between. Drummers who have influenced him are master legends like Buddy Rich, Billy Cobham, Tony Williams, Jack Dejohnette and every other drummer that walks this earth.
He has performed many concerts all over the country with his band NEXUS (Sangeet Haldipur, Sheldon D’silva, Shadab Hussain).NEXUS performs music from jazz-fusion, progressive rock , funk, world music as an instrumental band, plus with various singers performs pop shows as well. He has also shared the stage with his father Louis Banks, Hariharan, Leni Stern, Angela Hagenbach, Niladri Kumar, Karl Peters, Suneeta Rao, Shaan, Abhijeet, Rakesh Chaurasia, Talat Aziz, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Ustad Rashid Khan, and many other musicians and singers. He is a member of a jazz/funk band called BLACK MARKET with Sonia Saigal, Harmeet ‘Max’ Manseta, Sheldon. Also part of the exciting fusion group Sitar Funk.
Gino is already making a mark as a drummer to watch out for. He hopes to make a big impact on the music world by spreading the knowled ge and message of creative and honest music to any and everybody.
